Technology brings benefits for video

US consumers are watching more videos thanks to the increasing quality across high-definition television, digital video recorders and the internet, according to a Nielsen company report.

Online video dominant in Hong Kong

The online population of Hong Kong averaged more than 10 hours of video viewing per person, during March, according to Comscore's video metrix service. The report also shows that internet users in Hong Kong, aged 15 and over, watched 447 million videos.

Yahoo videos and product placement

An interesting report in the FT today about the increasing focus on "original branded entertainment", the mixture of content and advertising epitomised by Yahoo's self-produced online videos such as Sports Minute and the Toyota Who Knew current affairs videos.

Microsoft launches online video service in the UK

Microsoft today launches MSN Video Player, said to be the first serious rival to the BBC's iPlayer in the UK. Users will be able to watch whole series, not just the most recent episodes, in return for watching single 30-second ads before, during and after the programmes.
